The purpose of Care for Refugees is to initiate, support and implement projects, initiatives and activities that cater to: - the mental health and psycho-social well-being of refugee, displaced, migrant children and youngsters as well as those who are victims of extreme poverty, violence of other abuses of their basic human rights and - the legal protection of the above categories of children and youngsters, in deprived areas of countries that are underdeveloped, such as Moldova, Romania and Uganda. Or is developed countries such as Switzerland, Slovenia, etc., where there are serious gaps and issues concerning the affected children and youngsters.
Care for Refugees aims to fill gaps in the field of emergency, development and humanitarian aid. We work outside of large cities and towns, with reliable and serious local partners and members of the civil society in countries where the needs of children and adolescents are largely unfulfilled. Our approach is community-based: by focusing on the younger generations, helping children regain their confidence, strength and energy to carry on with their lives, to pursue their education, to address their mental health problems, we also support their famillies. And beyond that, their community. This approach has been recognized by WHO and several UN agencies as well as mental-health practitioners to bring quick and lasting results and to make good use of scarce resources. Even in the most developed countries, there are not enough psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals to cater to the mental well being of the population at large. We endeavour to implement our projects by directing funds to the beneficiaries. Our administrative and other costs are limited to the strict minimum.
Our projects are aimed at improving the legal status of children and youngsters who are affected by exile, extreme poverty, violence, discrimination. We also cater to their mental-health and psychosocial well-being. We fund activities such as theater, visual arts, music, sports that have been recognized by WHO and many experts to improve the well-being of children and youngsters who are deprived of access to such activities. In the legal field, we promote the legal rights of children and youngsters, to shield them from statelessness, involutary return to their country of origin, human trafficking, sexual violence, forced labour, etc. We intend to remain a small, flexible and responsive organization. And to conduct our activities in full transparency. We strive to limit the bureaucratic layers which hamber the delivery of humanitarian and development aid. For that purpose, we rely on our own proven experience in refugee law and humanitarian aid in the context of one of the largest emergency operations conducted by the UN in ex-Yugoslavia
We cater to the most disadvantaged children and youngsters. We rely and find inspiration and guidance from a very large network of government officials, UN staff, mental-health professionals, private sector entities, diplomatic circles. The richness of Care for Refugees is based on the diversity of its network. We span over several continents, cultures, languages. But all our supporters have in common a deep understanding for the urgency to help the most disadvantaged children and youngsters as they are our future. We intend to make a difference, and to realize concrete actions, no matter how small they are.
